Camp among the pines, Kings River Canyon, CA, circa 1907

About this postcard

A party of four men in Western dress make camp beneath towering sugar pines, with a pack outfit of saddles and gear hung on a rail behind them, rifles propped against a trunk and bedrolls spread on the ground in the foreground. The card's own caption places the scene in Kings River Canyon near Fresno, California, a rugged Sierra Nevada drainage that became a popular destination for pack-train excursions and early tourist photography in the early 1900s. The number 1806 at the left of the caption is a publisher's negative or plate number rather than a date.
