Canal Street looking west, New Orleans, LA, circa 1930

Card type
Linen

About this postcard

A wide view west along Canal Street in New Orleans, with streetcar tracks running down the broad neutral ground between lanes of parked automobiles. Pedestrians walk the sidewalks, and multi-story commercial buildings with awnings and American flags line both sides under a pale sky. Canal Street was the city's main shopping and office corridor, and its neutral ground, laid out along the line of a planned canal that gave the street its name, carried the streetcar lines connecting downtown with surrounding neighborhoods.
