About this postcard
A small red canoe carrying three paddlers crosses a calm lake, with wooded hills beyond and reeds and overhanging branches framing the foreground. The caption places the view at Mouth of Wilson, an unincorporated community in Grayson County in southwest Virginia, where Wilson Creek meets the New River close to the North Carolina line. The mountain scenery and trout streams of that corner of the state drew summer visitors and fishermen through the middle of the century. Joe Richardson's note to friends in Scottsville is a short, cheerful vacation report: he is having a swell time, finds the country beautiful, misses them, and hopes to see them again someday.
