A two-person canoe, one figure paddling and one seated at the stern, glides across a broad, still stretch of the Kalamazoo River, with dense trees lining both banks and reflected in the water under a pink-tinged sky. The printed caption names the river simply as "Scene on The Kalamazoo River." The Kalamazoo River runs about 130 miles through southwestern Michigan, from near Albion past Kalamazoo to Lake Michigan at Saugatuck, and was a popular subject for regional view cards of the divided-back era.
