A single canoe with a paddler glides down the still, blue-green water of the Suwannee River, framed by dense cypress and hardwood growth draped with long Spanish moss. The printed caption names the scene as "The Tranquil Suwannee River, Florida." The Suwannee rises in the Okefenokee Swamp of Georgia and runs some 240 miles through northern Florida to the Gulf of Mexico, long celebrated in song and popularized as a scenic, spring-fed river of the Deep South.
