Canoeing on the Charles River, Waltham, MA, 1910

About this postcard

A crowded summer flotilla of canoes and small boats fills the Charles River at Waltham, Massachusetts. Men and women in light summer dress, straw hats, and parasols sit close together in the boats, while a large brick factory and tall smokestack rise on the far bank at right against a wooded shoreline at left. The scene catches the river at a moment when Waltham's mills and the Charles River's popular canoeing outings shared the same stretch of water.
