Capstone Hill rises above the Ilfracombe seafront, its rocky face crossed by zigzag paths. Walkers are scattered along the slopes and the parade below, where a small pavilion and a glass-roofed building stand near the water. A single sailboat sits on the sea at the left.
Ilfracombe was an established North Devon seaside resort, and the hill and promenade formed part of its coastal walk. The view shows the resort's holiday landscape: a steep headland, a busy promenade, and open water beyond.
