Cardross Castle, a large stalagmite formation inside Shenandoah Caverns, rises in vertical fluted columns against a dark cave background, lit with yellow and blue light. The caption explains that a visitor gave the formation its name because it resembled Cardross Castle in Scotland. Shenandoah Caverns, near Mount Jackson in the Shenandoah Valley, was a commercial show cave and a stop for travelers touring the region in the early 1930s.
