Casa Blanca and palm trees, San Juan, Puerto Rico, circa 1904

About this postcard

A tinted view of the Casa Blanca in San Juan, Puerto Rico, seen past a row of tall coconut palms and tropical foliage, with a curving road and wall in the foreground and other buildings beyond. The caption names the Casa Blanca, the house begun in 1521 for the family of Juan Ponce de León and long associated with his widow, Isabel de Bobadilla; Ponce de León himself died before it was finished. Over the centuries the building served as a residence and later as a Spanish and then U.S. military headquarters in old San Juan.
