Turreted Casco Castle stands beside its tall rough-stone observation tower at South Freeport, Maine, its wooden facade lined with striped awnings and American flags. A footbridge connects the resort building to the tower. Amos F. Gerald built the castle around 1903 as a summer resort and amusement attraction, and guests could visit a small menagerie. Louise's message on the back wishes a friend were there "to feed the raccoons + monkeys for all the animals." The wooden castle burned in 1914, leaving the stone tower above the Harraseeket.
