About this postcard

A color view of Casco Castle, a turreted, castle-styled resort building with rows of striped awnings and several American flags flying, beside a tall rough-stone observation tower linked to the main block by a footbridge. Casco Castle was built around 1903 by Amos F. Gerald as a summer resort and amusement attraction at South Freeport, Maine, and it kept a small menagerie of animals for guests; the wooden castle burned in 1914, leaving only the stone tower, which still stands above the Harraseeket. The card's own caption names the site as Casco Castle, South Freeport, Maine.
