About this postcard

The Casino at Rivermont Park stands at the end of a curving gravel drive, a two-story frame pavilion with arched openings and a square observation tower rising above the pines. Swings and playground frames sit in the open ground in front. Rivermont Park was laid out in the 1890s as a pleasure ground on Lynchburg's Rivermont heights, and its casino was a pavilion for dances, concerts, and outings, not a gambling house. By the early 20th century, parks like this were common destinations for streetcar riders and community gatherings.
