About this postcard
The view looks up into a grove of giant coast redwoods, whose massive reddish-brown trunks rise like columns while sunlight filters through the green canopy above — the effect the caption calls the "Cathedral Aisles of California Redwoods." California's redwood groves, protected in state and national parks along the northern coast, preserve the tallest living trees on earth, some over 300 feet high and many centuries old. Such cathedral-like stands became a staple of mid-century tourist postcards promoting motor travel along the Redwood Highway.
