About this postcard
A steep, broken cliff of grey rock — the 'Great Stone Face' — rises above dark evergreen forest on the flank of Mount Mansfield, with a softer green ridge and a pale blue, cloud-streaked sky behind. The printed caption names the rock formation and the nearby Cave of the Winds on the side of Mount Mansfield in the Green Mountains of Vermont. Mount Mansfield is Vermont's highest peak, and its exposed ridgeline and cliffs have long drawn hikers and sightseers to the Stowe and Smugglers' Notch area.
