About this postcard

A view down Central Avenue in Hot Springs, Arkansas, with tall brick commercial blocks and bathhouse-style facades lining the right side of the street, utility poles along the curb, and a wooded hillside rising beyond the town. Central Avenue was the spine of the city's resort district, running past the row of bathhouses that drew visitors to the thermal springs of the federal reservation. In the early 1900s Hot Springs was among the most heavily visited resort towns in the United States, and the avenue carried a steady mix of health seekers, tourists, and the shops and hotels that served them.
