Central Avenue seen from the Reservation, Hot Springs, Arkansas, circa 1910

About this postcard

A black-and-white halftone view looks southeast down Central Avenue from the Army and Navy Reservation in Hot Springs, Arkansas, with a flagpole at right, trolley poles and overhead wires along the street, and a dense row of gabled and turreted commercial buildings climbing toward the bathhouse district. Central Avenue runs along the base of Hot Springs Mountain, and the city's bathhouses drew visitors to the thermal springs that made it a national reservation and later a national park. The tall smokestack and tower in the distance mark the busy downtown of the early twentieth century.
