The view shows the Central Congregational Church in Galesburg, Illinois, a Romanesque Revival building with a tall square corner tower, a large rose window above the entrance front, and round-arched doorways. Galesburg was founded in 1837 by Presbyterian minister George Washington Gale and grew as a railroad and college town. Knox College is there. The sender's note remarks that "Very few of the Western Cities contains Buildings, or Places of Historic Interest," so views of public buildings were the souvenirs available.
