About this postcard

The card pictures the Central Congregational Church of Galesburg, Illinois, a Romanesque Revival edifice with a tall square corner tower, a large rose window over the entrance front, and round-arched doorways, printed in a cyan-blue tint. Galesburg was founded in 1837 by the Presbyterian minister George Washington Gale and grew as a railroad and college town (Knox College sits nearby), and its Congregational congregation was among the community's early institutions. The card was mailed in 1903, when such church views were commonly sold as souvenirs of a town's public buildings.
