A red brick and stone fire station with a corner turret, steep slate roof and a tall hose-drying tower, with horse-drawn fire apparatus and white horses lined up along the street in front. Norwich, Connecticut, was a thriving industrial city on the Thames River, and its central fire station housed the steamers and horse teams that protected the downtown. The turreted Romanesque building shown here is typical of late-19th-century municipal fire architecture.
White border around a tinted view; slight edge wear.
Unused, undivided back with "THIS SIDE IS FOR THE ADDRESS ONLY" and a "Place Stamp Here / Domestic One cent / Foreign Two cents" box; no postmark, address, or message. White border on front; matte lithograph texture. Light soiling/toning on card stock.
