The view looks down Main Street from Central Square in Waltham, Massachusetts. A red brick commercial block with arched windows stands on the left, a light stone building with red-and-white striped awnings on the right, and a streetcar, an early automobile, and pedestrians share the wide roadway. Waltham was then a busy manufacturing city, known for watchmaking, and Main Street carried both trolley traffic and a growing number of motor cars.
