About this postcard

Rows of wooden folding chairs face the altar inside the Chapel of the Holy Name at the U.S. Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois. A crucifix stands against a tall fluted reredos beneath a painted ceiling. The chapel served sailors at the Navy's large recruit training station on Lake Michigan, a plain setting for worship amid the routines of base life.
