About this postcard
The view looks down the aisle of the Chapel of the Transfiguration, a small log Episcopal mission church on the Snake River in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. A plain altar rail and communion table stand before a large window that frames the snow-streaked Teton peaks and a cross; peeled-log walls, exposed rafters, and simple wooden furnishings give the interior its rustic character. The printed caption calls the scene "Tetons through the altar window" and identifies the building as the Mission of the Transfiguration. The chapel was built in 1925 to serve ranchers and summer visitors in Jackson Hole, and its altar window was placed to bring the Teton Range into the service. By the time this card was published, Grand Teton National Park had been established and the little church had become a familiar stop for travelers in the valley.
