Waves churn the surface of the Charles River at Waltham, Massachusetts, breaking against a low iron railing at the water's edge. A pale pink and blue sky fills the upper half of the view above the water.
Waltham grew up around the falls and dams on this stretch of the Charles, which powered the town's textile mills and the watch works that made it famous in the nineteenth century. By the time this view was printed, the riverfront was a familiar local subject for souvenir cards sold to residents and visitors.
