About this postcard
A view down Charlotte Street in St. Augustine, Florida, where whitewashed two-story buildings with steep red tile roofs and overhanging wooden balconies line the unpaved roadway. St. Augustine, founded by Spain in 1565, is the oldest continuously occupied European-established settlement in the continental United States, and its narrow colonial-era streets and coquina-walled houses are its best-known features. Charlotte Street is among the city's oldest thoroughfares, long associated with the Minorcan community that settled there in the eighteenth century.
