About this postcard
A crowd stands on the long dock at Chautauqua Assembly, with the large wooden assembly building and its open verandas at left. A multi-deck steamboat is moored at right, one of the lake steamers that brought visitors to the summer assembly on Chautauqua Lake. The Chautauqua Institution, founded in the 1870s, was a center for education and religious lectures, and its waterfront was a busy arrival point in season. Rosa's New Year's note to Mrs. E. M. Richardson in Durbin, West Virginia, mentions nursing sick family members and thanks her for a calendar. The message is a holiday greeting between friends in Warm Springs, Virginia, and Durbin, West Virginia.
