Cherokee Club, Macon, Georgia, circa 1905

About this postcard

A two-story Greek Revival clubhouse with a full-height portico of six columns, a flat roof topped by a row of globe finials, and a broad flight of steps leading up to the entrance; a small banner in the image names it the "Cherokee Club" of Macon, Georgia. The Cherokee Club was a leading women's literary and social organization in Macon, and its columned clubhouse on Mulberry Street was a local landmark of the early 1900s. The photograph is a typical local-stationer view of the period, issued by a Macon book and stationery firm.
