About this postcard
A small child in a red cap, white shirt, red bow tie, and green overalls holds a garden hose and sprays water across a large bush of white and pink daisy-like flowers, with a hedge and trees behind. The printed line “California Winter’s good enough for me” frames the scene as proof of the state’s mild climate, a common theme in California souvenir cards of the early twentieth century. The sender’s note mentions oranges, a fitting Southern California token. By 1911, Los Angeles and the surrounding region were promoting their citrus groves and winter gardens to eastern visitors and newcomers, and cards like this carried that image east.
