About this postcard
The white stucco Chimes Tower archway marks the entrance to the Agua Caliente Hotel and Casino, with red-tiled roofs, striped awnings and palm-shaded lawns behind it and a dark mountain ridge beyond; an airship floats in the pale blue sky. The Agua Caliente resort, opened in 1928 in Tijuana, Baja California, was a lavish hotel, spa and casino complex that drew Hollywood celebrities and American tourists during Prohibition, and its chimes tower became its signature landmark. The airship overhead reflects the era's fascination with dirigibles in the late 1920s and 1930s.
