About this postcard
Elevated view over a broad reservoir of blue water winding between forested green hills, with a sandy shoreline and dead snags in the foreground, printed as "Chittenden Dam in the Green Mountains, Vermont." Chittenden Dam, on the East Branch of the Cold River in Rutland County, was built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the late 1930s as a flood-control project, creating the impoundment shown here. The surrounding hills are part of the Green Mountains, Vermont's long north-south range.
