About this postcard

A bust-length Christ wears the crown of thorns and carries the wooden cross on his shoulder, his gaze turned toward the viewer. The image reproduces the painting attributed to Giorgione, the Venetian Renaissance painter who died in 1510, held at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. The museum opened in 1903, and its old-master collection gave American visitors access to Venetian painting of this kind.
