Christ Child with cross on straw, Polish Christmas, circa 1907

About this postcard

The Christ Child lies on a bed of straw under a white blanket, a halo around his head and a small cross in one hand. The dark blue background is scattered with gold stars, and a printed cord with two blue balls hangs across the top of the scene. The Polish greeting reads "Wesołych Świąt Bożego Narodzenia," a standard Christmas wish. The cross in the child's hand is a traditional reference to the Crucifixion, a common motif in Christmas devotional art.
