About this postcard

A Christmas greeting printed on a pale blue ground: at top the words "HAPPY CHRISTMAS," below them a shield-shaped inset showing a snow-covered red cottage with lamplit windows, a small figure on a snowy path, and a dark starry sky, flanked by sprigs of holly with red berries and mistletoe. Beneath the picture runs a four-line verse wishing "the best of luck, the best of cheer." Such holly-and-cottage greetings were staples of the early twentieth-century Christmas postcard trade, when sending cards by mail had become a holiday custom in the United States and Britain.
