Christmas holly wreath with church, Le Mars, IA, 1910

Card type

About this postcard

A large holly wreath with red berries and pale mistletoe buds frames a snow-covered village church, its slender onion-domed steeple rising above gabled houses under a wintry sky. The greeting 'A MERRY CHRISTMAS' is lettered in gold at the bottom. The scene follows a common early 20th-century Christmas postcard formula: traditional evergreens surrounding a cozy church-and-cottage view. The card was sent from Le Mars, Iowa, in 1910, when printed holiday greetings offered a quick, inexpensive way for relatives to exchange wishes across distance.
