About this postcard
The view looks down the central aisle of a church toward the chancel, with rows of empty wooden pews on either side. An altar with a cross and Gothic reredos stands at the far end, and a large pipe organ fills the right side of the frame. Dark timber trusses cross a light plaster ceiling above pointed arches and tall windows. The empty pews and clear aisle suggest the room between services. Gothic Revival woodwork and a large pipe organ were common in American church sanctuaries of the early 1900s, when congregations often treated the organ as a point of pride.
