A small stone chapel with a cross on its roof stands on a rocky outcrop in a snowy mountain landscape, its arched windows and short tower set among evergreens. The rough rock under the building makes the structure look grown from the site. Known as the Church on the Rock, the chapel served the Catholic retreat at St. Malo's on the South St. Vrain Highway near Estes Park. Built in the 1930s, it became a landmark on the mountain road and a quiet stop for travelers and retreat guests.
