Church with white spire, "Reopening Day" invitation card, circa 1950

Card type
Linen

About this postcard

A color view of a red-brick church with a tall white steeple and a columned portico fills the left half of the card, while the right half is a pale yellow panel printed with an invitation to "Reopening Day." Cards of this kind were produced for congregations to mail as reminders of a special service, often after a building renovation or the start of a new church year. The quoted verse, Psalm 29:2 ("Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness"), was a common motto on mid-century American Protestant church cards.
