A wave bursts into a tall plume of white spray between dark, ledgy granite rocks, with the open sea and a pale horizon behind. The printed caption names the spot as Marblehead Neck, Mass., the rocky peninsula that forms the eastern side of Marblehead Harbor on Massachusetts Bay north of Boston. Its exposed granite ledges and surf, together with the 1896 Marblehead Light tower at the neck's tip, made the area a popular scenic subject for early twentieth-century view cards.
