About this postcard

The City Hall and County Building fills a square block in the Chicago Loop, its long neoclassical facade rising from a rusticated base to a colonnade of Corinthian columns. Streetcars, automobiles, and pedestrians crowd the street at its foot, with brick commercial blocks pressing in on either side. Completed in 1911 to Holabird & Roche's design, the eleven-story building held both Chicago city offices and Cook County government offices. The sender, Irene, writes that she and Bob were married there that morning and compares its size with a building in Reading. The scene places the building at the center of Loop street life in the mid-1930s.

This is where we were married this morning at 10.30 Chicago time. 2:15 Va very big building bigger than that in Reading. Every thing is O.K. I was a little nervous though. Bob brought a box of candy for me from Calif. I sent short cards on my way out. Irene & Bob
