About this postcard

The picture shows the massive City Hall and County Building in Chicago, a block-long neoclassical structure whose upper stories are wrapped in a tall colonnade of Corinthian columns above a rusticated base. Streetcars, automobiles and pedestrians fill the street at its foot, with brick commercial blocks visible at either side. Completed in 1911 to designs by Holabird & Roche, the eleven-story building housed both the city and Cook County governments and is a familiar landmark on LaSalle Street in the Loop.
