About this postcard
City Hall Square in Brooklyn, seen across a small circular pool and lawn in the foreground, where a bronze figure stands on a pedestal. Horse-drawn wagons and pedestrians cross the open square, and a steel elevated railway with trains and trolleys cuts across the middle distance. Tall commercial blocks flank the square, and a domed tower flying American flags rises at the right. The square sat in front of Brooklyn's Borough Hall. The monument is the Henry Ward Beecher memorial by John Quincy Adams Ward, dedicated in 1891; Beecher was the pastor of Plymouth Church and a prominent antislavery speaker.
