About this postcard
The City Hospital in Massillon, Ohio, viewed from the street: a brick building with ivy on its walls, a flag above the roof, yellow awnings over the entrance, and brick gateposts at the drive. An early automobile is parked at the curb, a small sign of the motor age reaching a mid-sized Ohio city. Massillon, in Stark County, was an industrial town known for steel and for the mills and factories that drew workers from across Ohio and Europe. A hospital of this size served a growing population, and local views like this one were sold as civic promotion as much as for correspondence.
