About this postcard

The long brick City Market hall fills the view, with round-arched windows, round oculus vents under deep overhanging eaves, and horse-drawn wagons and vendors' stalls clustered along the curb. Savannah's City Market occupied Ellis Square for generations, and the surrounding market district handled produce, meat, and seafood from the Georgia lowcountry. The old hall was demolished in 1954, and Ellis Square later reopened as public space.
