About this postcard

The printed caption identifies the city as Tucson, seen from 'A' Mountain, also called Sentinel Peak, the rise just west of downtown. The view looks over a broad desert town of low flat-roofed buildings, a few taller mid-rise blocks, and a church tower at the right, with a long brown mountain wall rising behind and scattered clouds above. The caption places Tucson on open desert at 2,400 feet, ringed by the Santa Catalinas to the north, the Rincons to the east, the Santa Ritas to the south, and the Tucson Mountains to the west. By the mid-1950s Tucson was one of the fastest-growing cities in the Southwest, and the scene shows that spread toward the surrounding ranges.
