About this postcard
A tall stone pedestal topped by a soldier statue with a rifle stands among trees beside a park road. A horse-drawn carriage and driver pass on the right, and several smaller monuments are visible behind. The scene is in Kelly Field, part of Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, established in 1890 to preserve the September 1863 battlefield. Kelly Field saw heavy fighting on the second day of the battle, and the park's unit monuments mark the positions of the armies. By the early 1900s the grounds drew veterans and tourists, and postcards helped spread views of the battlefield.
