About this postcard
A view across the forested ridges of the Great Smoky Mountains toward the rounded summit of Clingman's Dome, labeled on the card as standing 6,642 feet high. Clingman's Dome, on the Tennessee–North Carolina line, is the highest point in Great Smoky Mountains National Park and was named for Confederate general and geologist Thomas Lanier Clingman; the park itself was established in 1934. The card is a linen-textured view published from the photograph of W. M. Cline, a Knoxville photographer long associated with Smoky Mountain scenery.
