About this postcard
A sweeping view of the paved parking loop and overlook at Clingman's Dome, elevation 6,311 feet, with a row of 1930s–40s automobiles nosed into parking bays along the ridge and layered green mountain ridges fading into the distance. Clingman's Dome is the highest point in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and on the Appalachian Trail, named for Confederate general and North Carolina senator Thomas Lanier Clingman; the modern observation tower there was completed in 1959, after this view was made. The photograph is credited on the card to Elliot Lyman Fisher.
