Clinton Beach on the Connecticut shore, with a rowboat pulled up on the sand, a striped beach umbrella set out near the water, and summer cottages behind a low stone seawall. The calm water at right suggests a sheltered stretch of Long Island Sound.
In the early 1900s, Clinton and neighboring shore towns drew summer visitors from inland Connecticut for bathing and day trips by rail. The mix of simple cottages and beach furniture here fits that resort trade.
Divided-back collotype card, matte texture, no white border; monochrome photograph with printed caption in white at lower left. No postmark, message, or address. Pencil dealer/collector marks on back ('RMLJ 3—' upper right, '160' lower right).
