Cluster of Oranges on the Tree, circa 1903

Card type
Printed photo

About this postcard

A close view of a bearing orange branch, with ripe orange fruit clustered among dark green leaves and a few white blossoms at the upper right. The card reproduces a color photomechanical print of the sort issued by the Detroit Photographic Company, whose photochrom process turned black-and-white negatives into tinted views for sale as prints and postcards in the early 1900s. Such fruit close-ups served as generic views of the American citrus-growing regions rather than of a specific grove.
