Clusters of grapefruit on the tree, Florida, circa 1910

Card type

About this postcard

A close view of heavy clusters of pale yellow grapefruit hanging among dark green citrus leaves and woody branches, printed with the card's own caption "Clusters of Grape Fruit, Florida." Citrus growing became a major Florida industry in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and views of laden grove branches were a popular promotional subject for the state's growers and railroads. The fruit shown is likely the pomelo-derived grapefruit that Florida growers commercialized in this period.
