About this postcard

Three views show the Co-Operative Building & Loan Association in Lynchburg, Virginia: a multi-story headquarters with a glass curtain wall and a flat cantilevered canopy over the entrance; a circular drive-in branch with a curved fascia reading "CO-OPERATIVE BUILDING & LOAN ASSOC. / HOME LOANS / SAVINGS"; and a single-story brick branch with a projecting sign tower. The buildings are mid-century modern commercial work, and the car and clothing in the street view fit the late 1950s or early 1960s. Savings and loan associations in the postwar decades often used modern, car-oriented branch offices to project stability and convenience.
